Biography

Mahmoud Hemida is an Egyptian actor born on December 7, 1953, in the district of Manial Sultanate, Atfeeh Center, Giza Governorate. He is known for his cultural background, love for reading, and appreciation of literature, and poetry, especially the works of Fouad Haddad.

During his university studies, he joined the university theatre group. After graduating from the Faculty of Commerce in 1981, he began his career by working in the sales department of a multinational company.

Being passionate about the world of art, Mahmoud Hemida pursued acting and dancing through amateur groups and Yousry Hamdy's folk arts group for several years.

He was then chosen by television director Ahmed Khedr to participate in the series "Al-Azhar Al-Sharif Minaret Al-Islam" in 1982. He later appeared in the series "Harat Al-Shorafaa" in 1986. In the same year, Mahmoud Hemida ventured into cinema with the film "Al-Awbash."

Mahmoud Hemida also produced musical concerts for the world-renowned violinist Abdo Dagher at the Cairo Opera House, the Arab Music Institute, and Egyptian universities.

He also produced numerous poetry evenings for the great poet Fouad Haddad, forming a complete team to present these evenings at the Cairo Opera House, the International Book Fair, and the Alexandria Library.

In 1996, he founded the Actor Studio, enlisting the expertise of prominent professionals to make it a centre for training and nurturing young talents, combining artistic talent with an academic approach.

The goal was to support talent and equip it with the necessary skills to keep pace with the rapid development of the film industry in Europe, America, and various countries worldwide.

Mahmoud Hemida also established Al-Batrik Art Production Company in 1996 and produced several cinematic and documentary films, including "Gamal Abdel Nasser" in 1998 directed by Anwar Al-Qawadri, "Jannat Al-Shayateen" in 1999 directed by Osama Fawzi, a documentary film about the renowned Iraqi poet "Nazik Al-Mala'ika" in 2000 directed by Khairiya Al-Mansour, as well as the documentary film "Jild Hay" in 2010 directed by Fawzi Saleh, and "Ward Masmom" in 2018, also directed by the same director.

In 1997, Mahmoud Hemida launched a film magazine titled "Al-Fann Al-Sabe'" (The Seventh Art), with journalist Mahmoud Al-Kirdousi as the editor-in-chief.

It was the first Arabic print publication specializing in the film industry in the Middle East. Despite ceasing publication in 2001, its issues remained valuable to researchers and scholars, serving as a historical reference for various local and international works.

Believing in the importance of helping the younger generations appreciate and present art in an elegant manner, Mahmoud Hemida contributed to the Youth Project in collaboration with the German Agency for Technical Cooperation and the Ministry of Planning to support artistic talents. He produced the play "Colors of Patches" in 2002.
